Classic Car Restorations for Car Shows

Classic Car Restoration | December 17, 2020

There are many different ways to restore a classic car, and the type of restoration that you should employ for your next project will depend on your intentions for the vehicle. If you want to use the car as a daily driver, then the methods used and the level of restoration will differ from that used to restore a car for the purpose of displaying it at car shows or entering it into competitions. At Vintage Rod Shop, we specialize in all kinds of vintage vehicle restoration services, including classic car restorations for car shows.

Types of Classic Vehicle Restorations for Car Shows

If you are planning on entering your restored vehicle into classic car shows, it is important to know what level of restoration you want to achieve. Are you hoping to win competitions, or do you just want to have something fun to show off at a street show? There are four levels of restoration for classic cars, and it is important to know which category you want your vehicle to fall under before you begin the restoration. The four levels of car restoration are:

  • Driving condition – not necessarily meant for competitions, but rather for easy driving and light cosmetics
  • Street show condition – impressive and cosmetically complete, but still often features customizations
  • Show car condition – major attention to detail, used for cars that are seldom driven
  • Concours condition – perfect, as if the car just came off the line: these cars are almost never driven, but are instead collector’s items

The level of restoration that you should pursue will depend on the kind of shows that you want to enter your car into. If you are hoping to achieve show car or concours condition, it is usually best to have a professional car restorer help you with the project. Many car shows have various competition levels that correspond with the different types of restorations, so make sure that you know what kind of show you want to compete in when restoring the vehicle. It is also important to consider the type of vehicle being restored, as not every classic car is worthy of being restored to concours condition.
